How to give away things you no longer use

Prepare your item, describe it honestly and agree on a handoff. A practical guide for passing on clothes, books, furniture and other useful belongings.

Get the item ready

Check whether someone can still use it. Wash clothing, clean kitchenware and test the main functions of appliances. Before handing over a phone or computer, sign out of your accounts and remove your personal data. Be open about damage and missing parts.

Create a useful listing

Sign in to QoldanQolga and create a listing. Use photos of the actual item and include its size, what comes with it and any signs of wear. Choose the giveaway option if you do not want money or another item in return. Include your city, but keep your full home address out of the public description.

Agree on collection

Confirm the time, place and transport arrangements before meeting. For furniture, discuss dimensions, stairs, lift access and who will help carry it. Meet in a busy public place during daylight for smaller items. If collection from home is necessary, arrange for someone you trust to be with you.

Can I give away something with a fault?

Describe the fault and show it in the photos. Make sure the recipient understands the condition before handing it over. Do not describe an unsafe item as ready to use.

Should anyone pay for a free item?

A giveaway means there is no charge for the item itself. Discuss any transport costs separately before agreeing to collection. Do not send a stranger a deposit to reserve a free item, and do not share verification codes or bank card details.

What should happen at the handoff?

Let the recipient inspect the item and check that everything listed is included. Either person can decline if the condition or arrangements are unsuitable. Once the handoff is complete, update the listing status in your account so others can see whether the item is still available.
